|
Columbus Research and Wellness Institute, Inc. is a non-profit clinical research organization that specializes in pharmaceutical research in many therapeutic areas such as: Multiple Sclerosis, Diabetes, Hypertension, High Cholesterol, Depression, Stroke, Parkinson, Alzheimer's and Anxiety. Our team of physicians and clinical research coordinators has been instrumental in bringing several drugs to market. Columbus Research and Wellness Institute, Inc. provides all clinical research services at no cost to the patient. This has been a valuable benefit to patients within our community.A clinical research trial is a research study investigating a pharmaceutical agent to determine the efficacy and safety of a drug that will be used to treat or cure certain diseases. Each drug that the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) approves must go through four phases of clinical trials. Most clinical research trials involve using an active substance or a placebo. A placebo is an inactive treatment or substance, sometimes called a "sugar pill". A placebo helps researchers to determine whether a new medical treatment is safer and/or more effective than not having a treatment. This is not always easy to determine because some patients get better during a clinical research study although they are not taking an active substance or medical treatment. This is what is referred to as the "placebo effect". Some patients also experience reactions to medications and substances when only a placebo was given. This is considered another psychological reaction or effect. In order to determine if the new treatment is safe and effective, researchers need to discount the impact of the "placebo effect". If you think that you qualify for any of our studies, please give us a call. All doctor visits and medications are free and in many cases travel reimbursement is provided.
